Mike McGee

Ensemble Coordinator/Show Design & Battery Arranger

Mike is in his third year with Breakthrough and has been an active designer and instructor in the Marching Arts since 2007. He comes from a wide variety of musical backgrounds as he’s performed in DCIwith Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps and the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps as well as performing on snare drum in WGI as a charter member with Pulse Percussion Open. 

Mike has experience writing drill and writing music for numerous groups as well as being an instructor in the Southern California area and most recently Arizona. Aside from Breakthrough, notable groups include Upland High School, Ayala High School, Mandarins Drum and Bugle corps andthe Visual Caption Head at POW Percussion.  Currently, Mikes lives in Chandler, AZ and is a member of the Vic Firth Education Team.

Jonathan Zuniga

Show Design/Electronics & Sound Design

This is Jonathan’s first year on staff with Breakthrough and we are very excited to welcome him to the BT Team.  He is an instructor and composer from Southern California and recently became the Marketing Manager for Box Six.   He has worked with Los Alamitos High School since 2011, and Chino Hills Winter Drumline in 2012. His instruction in Drum Corps includes Academy 2011, Cadets 2012, and currently with the Blue Stars starting in 2013.

His performance experience includes the Arizona Academy Drum & Bugle Corps, RCC Winter Drumline and the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps.

He is a member of the Vic Firth educational team and lives in Fullerton, CA.

Visual Caption-Head/Show & Visual Design

This is Stevens fourth year on staff withBreakthrough.  He was born and raised in Southern California and studied at California State University, Fullerton. He was a member of Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle Corpsand The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps.   Steven is a full time visual designer writing for marching bands and indoor drumlines all over the country. In 2013 he became POW Percussion’s drill designer.  

Steven was the drill designer for Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle Corps from 2010-2012 and returned in 2015. He has been on visual staff with The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle since 2009, where he is currently the Visual Caption Head.  He also currently works as the Visual Caption-Head for Pulse Percussion and the drill designer and teacher at Chino Hills HS and Los Alamitos HS.

Steven lives in Brea, CA.

Whitney Semens

Whitney Semens

Show Design/Choreography & Movement Specialist

This is Whitney's second year on staff with Breakthrough. Born and raised in Tempe, Arizona, Whitney began performing with the Arizona Academy of Performing Arts in 2001 in the youth color guard program. Whitney continued in color guard through high school and marched the Academy Drum and Bugle Corps from 2005 to 2009, aging out and earning a gold medal for her Individual and Ensemble dance ensemble performance. Whitney was also an active member of the Academy Winter Guard from 2007 to 2009. In 2010 she graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences and now works as a speech therapist in the valley. Whitney also works as a colorguard instructor for Gilbert High School and the Academy Youth Guard. Most recently, Whitney was the color guard manager with the Academy Drum & Bugle Corps Whitney is thrilled to be back for her second year on the Breakthrough staff.
